Vulnerability Management
How do MSPs run vulnerability management across many client tenants?
By Oliver Spence, CEO, CybaVerse. Last reviewed
MSPs run vulnerability management across many tenants by scanning every client continuously, pulling the results into one multi-tenant view with each client's data kept separate, and applying the same prioritisation rules to all of them. Engineers then work one shared, ranked queue, while each client gets its own reporting and its own critical asset list.
This page is part of our vulnerability management guide.
Why is multi-tenant vulnerability management hard?
Each client has different devices, software, critical systems and appetite for downtime. Running a separate console per client multiplies effort and makes it hard to see which client is most at risk. The NCSC vulnerability management guidance stresses having an up-to-date asset view and a consistent way to prioritise.
Volume is the other problem. Across dozens of clients, scans can surface thousands of findings each week. Without consistent scoring and a shared queue, engineers either chase the noisiest client or work through findings in whatever order they arrive.
What does a good multi-tenant setup look like?
A good setup gives engineers one place to work and clients their own view, without mixing data between tenants. The table below lists the building blocks most MSPs need. Check each one against your current tooling before adding more clients to the service, because gaps get harder to fix later.
| Building block | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| One view across clients | See where risk is highest |
| Data separated per client | Protect confidentiality and access |
| Role-based access | Engineers see only what they need |
| Consistent scoring | Like-for-like priorities across clients |
| Per-client critical assets | Business context changes priority |
| Per-client reports | Clear evidence for each client |
How do you set it up, step by step?
The steps below suit most MSPs moving from per-client consoles to one multi-tenant programme. They follow NCSC vulnerability management guidance and use public prioritisation signals such as CVSS scores and the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalogue. Roll them out client by client so each tenant is set up properly.
-
Step 1: Onboard each client as its own tenant
Keep data, access and reporting separate from day one.
-
Step 2: Reconcile assets
Compare scan coverage with each client's asset list.
-
Step 3: Tag critical systems
Mark each client's business-critical servers and services.
-
Step 4: Apply one prioritisation policy
Rank by known exploitation, severity and asset importance.
-
Step 5: Work one shared queue
Let engineers work the highest risks first, whichever client they belong to.
-
Step 6: Report per client
Send each client its own trend report every month.
How should you prioritise across clients?
Prioritise across clients with the same rules for everyone, then let business context decide between findings of similar severity. A known-exploited flaw on an internet-facing server should outrank a medium finding on a test laptop, wherever each sits. The CISA KEV catalogue and FIRST EPSS scores help separate likely threats from theoretical ones.
- Known exploited vulnerabilities first
- Then high and critical findings on critical or internet-facing assets
- Then findings approaching the Cyber Essentials 14-day deadline
- Then the remaining backlog by severity
Where does CybaOps fit?
CybaOps is built for MSPs to run vulnerability management across every client from one multi-tenant platform. Scan results are tied to the assets they affect, so engineers can work a single prioritised view while each client's data, access and reporting stay separate and easy to manage.
- MSPs can run CybaOps across all their customers from one multi-tenant platform.
- CybaVM gives continuous internal and external vulnerability scanning, prioritised in one place in CybaOps.
- Vulnerability scanning in CybaOps is powered by Qualys.
- CybaOps ties vulnerabilities to the assets they affect, so teams fix what matters first.
- CybaOps handles large vulnerability volumes across many customer tenants.
- CybaOps has role-based access control.
- Vulnerability data can be exported from CybaOps reports.

What else do MSPs ask about multi-tenant vulnerability management?
These are the follow-up questions we hear most from MSPs scaling vulnerability management.
Should every client use the same scan schedule?
Use the same baseline for every client, then increase frequency for higher-risk ones, such as clients with many internet-facing services. A shared baseline keeps reporting comparable and stops slow schedules creeping in unnoticed.
How do we stop engineers seeing the wrong client's data?
Use role-based access so each engineer sees only the tenants they support. Review access when staff join, move or leave, and record who can see each client's vulnerability data.
Can clients see their own vulnerability data?
Many MSPs share regular reports rather than live access. Decide per client what they need. Reports showing trends and fixes are usually more useful to a client than a raw list of findings.
