CybaVerse Success Stories – Patrick Lynch

In this Success Story, we shine a spotlight on Patrick Lynch, Head of Software Development at CybaVerse. Since joining the business following the SecureAck acquisition, Patrick has played a key role in shaping the next generation of the CybaVerse platform, CybaOps, bringing deep operational security experience into product development. Here, we explore Patrick’s career journey, what drew him to CybaVerse, and the impact he continues to have on both CybaOps and the team.

How did your background and career path lead you to CybaVerse, and what attracted you to the company?

I began my career in penetration testing before moving into SOC and compliance roles, which gave me a broad view of how security operates across different environments. Over time, this naturally led me toward automation, particularly in the context of building and improving security products that could reduce manual effort and improve consistency for security teams.

I joined CybaVerse following the acquisition of SecureAck, and I remember being genuinely excited when the opportunity first arose. It was clear to me that CybaVerse had significant potential, a strong mix of people, and a solid foundation on which we could build something meaningful together. Having worked in a variety of security roles, CybaOps is something I know I would have valued greatly in previous positions, which makes it particularly rewarding to now be involved in developing a product that delivers real value to security teams.

How do your educational and professional experiences support the work you do at CybaVerse today?

My background spans penetration testing, compliance, SOC operations, and general security, which gives me a practical, end-to-end understanding of how security teams operate. This experience allows me to approach the CybaOps platform from the perspective of those who use it day-to-day, rather than from a purely theoretical standpoint.

Having worked directly in the field, I have seen first-hand how many security tools are built around assumptions of what users need, often by people who have never worked in operational security roles themselves. That insight has been invaluable in helping shape a platform that focuses on solving real problems, avoids unnecessary complexity, and reflects how security is delivered in practice.

What unique skills, experiences, or perspectives do you bring to your role at CybaVerse?

Being a penetration tester at heart, but a developer by trade, gives me a perspective that bridges both the offensive security mindset and practical software engineering. This allows me to contribute to building a platform where security is considered from the outset, rather than added later as an afterthought.

Outside of my day-to-day work, I enjoy experimenting with new technologies and keeping up to date with developments across the security industry. This hands-on approach helps me challenge assumptions, explore alternative solutions, and ensure that the product continues to evolve in line with real-world threats and the needs of modern security teams.

What kinds of projects and activities have you been involved in, and are there any standout moments that were especially memorable?

The most significant piece of work I have been involved in at CybaVerse has been the development of the next generation of CybaOps. Working on a rebuild from the ground up was challenging, but it also gave us the opportunity to reassess existing approaches, explore new technologies, and make deliberate design decisions without being constrained by legacy processes or libraries.

A particularly meaningful part of that work for me was the development of the Cyber Essentials application within CybaOps. As someone who is qualified to conduct Cyber Essentials assessments and having previously spent a considerable amount of time completing the process manually, I was keen to ensure this functionality genuinely reduced effort and complexity. Being able to translate that hands-on experience into an automated solution that supports auditors and simplifies the assessment process has been especially rewarding.

Seeing positive feedback on these features, both internally and from customers, reinforces the value of building tools that reflect how security work is carried out in practice.

What do you think makes CybaVerse a unique place to work, and how does the company encourage a positive, inclusive culture?

I have worked in several environments where interesting and innovative projects were taking place, but none have matched the level of enthusiasm and positivity I have experienced at CybaVerse. There is a genuine willingness across the organisation to contribute, collaborate, and support one another, regardless of role or seniority.

From colleagues who have recently joined to our experienced C-suite, everyone is encouraged to share ideas and take ownership, creating a culture where people feel valued and trusted. This approach is reflected in how the company treats its employees and has made CybaVerse a genuinely rewarding place to work.

Have you undertaken or plan to undertake any training or development that will assist with your role at CybaVerse?

While I haven’t undertaken any formal training since joining CybaVerse, continuous learning is very much part of my day-to-day work. I currently hold the OSCP and OSWE certifications, which reflect my background in hands-on security and offensive testing, and those skills continue to inform how I approach both development and product decisions.

As my role has evolved, I am also keen to expand my development in areas such as leadership and people management, as this is a relatively new aspect of my position. Building on both technical and leadership skills will help me contribute more effectively as the team and CybaOps continue to grow.

How do you like to spend your time away from work?

Outside of work, I am a keen photographer and enjoy spending time hiking. When I’m not developing for CybaVerse, I often find myself working on personal projects, including home automation, electronics, and 3D printing. These interests allow me to experiment, learn, and approach problems from different angles, which naturally feeds back into my work.

If you could give one piece of advice to new employees joining CybaVerse, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid to give your opinion. The best way to learn is to get involved, and CybaVerse is a company that genuinely listens to its people. Speaking up, asking questions and sharing ideas has been encouraged from day one and makes a real difference to both personal growth and the direction of CybaOps.
